There is no known cure, but these are some treatment options to consider:
•Steroid drugs can be used to slow the loss of muscle strength
•Physical activity is encouraged while inactivity can make the disease worse
•Physical therapy may also be used to maintain muscle strength as well as speech therapy
•Assisted ventilation may be needed
•Angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors, beta-blockers, and diuretics may be used to help heart function
•Orthopedic appliances (for example braces and wheelchairs) to improve mobility
•Proton pump inhibitors for people with gastroesophageal reflux, AKA heart burn or acid reflux disease

There are several alternative/additional options that may be used such as:
•Albuterol (a drug used for people with asthma), amino acids, carnitine, Coenzyme Q10, creatine, fish oil, green tea extracts, Vitamin E
–The effects of these options have not been proven
–Future treatments may include gene therapy and stem cells
